Helen Louise Reyer, of Sims, Arkansas went to be with the Lord on March 16, 2019. Helen was born June 4, 1930, as one of nine children born to James Wesley and Ila Cochran Hughes, of Scotland, Mississippi. Helen was raised on a farm during the depression. Her family grew cotton, corn, and livestock. Working hard was the way of life for Helen’s family.
Growing up, Helen was known as a prankster, to her siblings, friends and school mates. She loved plums and would pick them and carry them in her pockets. She generously gave them away, when asked for a plum, she would hold out her pocket for the recipient to get a plum, most of the time, she held out the pocket with the frog in it. Helen was well-known in the community and church as an excellent dessert maker, she was famous for her lemon icebox pies and chocolate cakes. She had an open door policy, to many folks that would come by and eat a meal or have a dessert and coffee. Helen welcomed her nieces and nephews to the house, some of them for most of the summer months. As long as there was room for pallets on the floor, no one was turned away. Her hospitality exceeded most expectations. Helen married Joseph Edward Reyer, they were married for 46 years, until his death in 1995. They had four children: Eddie (Kathie) Reyer of The Woodlands, Texas, Dr. Earl (Donna) Reyer of Scotland, Ms, Diane (Richard) Beeby of Raymond, Ms, and Dennis (Donna) Reyer of Sims, AR. Helen is survived by her children, and grandchildren: Trey Reyer of Houston, Tx, Ashleigh Grace Reyer of Austin, Tx, Jody (Brittany) Reyer of Lena, Ms, Jesse (Annie) Reyer of Lago Vista, Tx, Amber (Edward) Raymond of Florence, Ms, Cristen (Brad) Ainsworth of Brandon, Ms, Brecken (Brian) Peden of Richland, Ms, and Emily (Richard) Shipman of Sims, AR.
